The String was initialized in 1997 when Josh Meredith and Aaron Anthony met in Fort Worth Texas. Since both of them worked in tech support at the time working with modems it only seemed fitting to name the project Initialization String or Init String for short. An Init String is a command to force computers to connect via a modem. Shortly after that the 2 began a new found fascination with synthesizers, mostly analogs, ranging from the classic TB-303, SH-101 and Moog Multimoog synths to ignite their creativity. Soon after they both moved in a house together to establish their studio riddled with various pieces of gear. Init String was one of the first few electronic live acts that spawned from the Dallas/Fort Worth area to take over the rave scene at that time where underground parties were in full effect happening every weekend. Their dynamic, unclassifiable live act quickly drew attention from promoters both local and beyond as they performed live with various analog synths, mixer and hardware sequencers.

Init String soon began performing across the US and have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such acts as Shpongle, Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection, Koxbox, John Bishop, Deep Sky, Roy Davis Jr, Hallucinogen, Antix, S-Range, and many more. In 1999 their first album “Glitzed” was written like a live performance electronic album utilizing analog synths featuring multiple styles going from ambient, drum and bass, electronica and trance. They started their own label called Subtle Distortion Records and began working with Michael (Smiley) Hale of Gift Culture who joined forces deploying his wicked drumming skills with Josh and Aaron's psychedelic rump-thumping beats. After that they released 2 more albums, “Feedback Loops” and “Iterations” along with the vinyl EP "Dig" under their label Subtle Distortion Records. Multiple compilation tracks were released internationally to labels such as We Records, Nephlim Records, XYZ Distribution and Sundance.

Artistically Aaron came from a graphic artist background and Josh from a video production background. Around 2001 the 2 began creating visuals using software such as After Effects and Visual Jockey that was amazingly performed synchronized with their live act becoming the first psy trance act to pull this off . The house in Ft Worth became a creative haven where Troy and Julee from Psymbolic Visual Communications came over sharing ideas and creating visuals together. The 2 groups joined forces in multiple club events, art galleries, open air festivals featuring interactive multimedia environments and live audio driven visuals. After years of doing that, Aaron and Josh decided to focus their efforts on strictly making making music, playing shows and releasing tracks. Since then both Aaron and Josh have relocated to Austin Texas inspired by its laid back music friendly vibe to continue the legend.

All 3 of them play in other projects also. Aaron established his own downtempo project called Artificial Life Preserver and Mike as well with Gift Culture. Josh has also begun a new psytrance project with Telepatica called Dream Pipe but the 3 continue to rock audiences across the world with their freestyle booty shaking sounds.
